The SXI Instrument is one of four Instruments on the Spacecraft (S/C). SMILE will monitor the interaction of the Earth’s magnetosphere and ionosphere with the solar wind. The mission science is intended to assist the understanding of the structures and dynamics of the magnetosphere and ionosphere on a global scale. The SMILE payload consists of the SXI, Ultraviolet Imager (UVI), Light Ion Analyser (LIA) and Magnetometer (MAG) Instruments.
The SXI Instrument comprises three units: Telescope, Front End Electronics (FEE) and Back End Electronics Box (EBOX), plus inter-connecting unit Harness.
As part of the instrument Proto-Flight Model (PFM) acceptance test campaign, the SXI instrument needs to undergo thermal balance and thermal cycling acceptance testing to demonstrate compliance with instrument thermal performance requirements.
